Our introduction into fibers was felting. The pumpkin one at the bottom in the center is mine. We started out with a "tangling" technique that created a more 2-D piece.
After getting the idea, and used to felting, we moved on to 3-D felting. After a few accidental prickings of my fingers, the final piece came out nicely.
After I finished my Toucan, I had enough time to do a small piece. I did this little elephant who is much smaller but I think the detail is quite nice.
When we started weaving baskets, we used tar paper. The material was pretty nice to work with as it was flexible but not easily torn or broken like reed. we laid the paper out before hand and splatter painted it as a class to add some color and uniqueness to the individual pieces.
When we started working with reed, we had to make small Cherokee baskets. They actually use whats called a double wall structure where you weave a small inside basket and then weave an outer wall piece.
3-D Work
My 3-D projects are limited, but it's a mixture of ceramic pieces and fiber work. My only year in Fiber Arts was my freshman year, and my only semester in Ceramics was my Senior Year.
